Where We Started

Spirit and Pride were nearly non-existent when we first arrived in the village.  With no opportunity to improve one’s condition in even the slightest way, there was no hope.

What We Have Done

Ethiopian culture is one of the oldest in the world and full of richness and tradition.  Decades of attempting to simply survive and provide basic needs have taken its toll on the spirit of many of the people.

Village of Hope provides simple, basic needs that lift the heart and allow those in the village to look for a brighter future.  When we first started working in the village much of our work was simply giving what was needed.  We quickly transitioned so that wherever possible, those receiving benefit provided service or received education as a way of “earning” their benefit. 

As a result of the work done by so many associated with and supportive of the Village of Hope, villagers now regularly experience opportunities they once could not have dreamed of, such as:

·         A daughter attending school, in her new uniform, with text books.

·         A wheelchair that provides independence and mobility to a young women.

·         A pair of glasses that allow an elderly man to read.

·         Medication for an ailing child.

·         A new blanket for a toddler.

·         A pair of shoes.

·         Sitting in a school room with fresh paint.

·         Walking down a road that is neatly cared for and in good repair.

·         Fresh drinking water for a family.

·         New clothing for a young child.

·         Community events where music, culture and history are celebrated.

·         Being paid a fair wage for a hard day’s work.

·         Receiving thanks and a small portion of food from the widow after they helped harvest her crop.

·         Parents knowing they are providing a better future for their children.
